Product Description
Polyethylene glycol is abbreviated as "PEG". A polymer compound formed by intermolecular dehydration condensation of ethylene glycol. The chemical formula is HOCH2(CH2OCH2)nCH2OH. where n is greater than 4. The average molecular weight is 200-7000. The numbers following commercial polyethylene glycols indicate average molecular weights. For example, polyethylene glycol-400 means that the average molecular weight of the commercial polyethylene glycol is about 400.
Colorless viscous liquid or white solid. Soluble in water and many organic solvents, easily soluble in aromatic hydrocarbons, slightly soluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons
Application
Can be used for Tablets, capsules, film-coated, pills, suppositories, etc.
In the production process, PEG can improve the plasticity and release the drug tablets. High molecular weight PEG (PEG4000 and PEG6000) is useful adhesives to manufacture tablets.
PEG allows the surface of tablets shiny and smooth, so it not easy to damage.
1.Chemical uses
PEG is the basis of a number of laxatives. Whole bowel irrigation with polyethylene glycol and added electrolytes is used for bowel preparation before surgery or colonoscopy.PEG is also used as an excipient in many pharmaceutical products.When attached to various protein medications, polyethylene glycol allows a slowed clearance of the carried protein from blood.
2.Medical uses
PEG is often used (as an internal calibration compound) in mass spectrometry experiments, with its characteristic fragmentation pattern allowing accurate and reproducible tuning.
PEG derivatives, such as narrow range ethoxylates, are used as surfactants.
PEG has been used as the hydrophilic block of amphiphilic block copolymers used to create some polymersomes.
3.Biological uses
PEG is commonly used as a precipitant for plasmid DNA isolation and protein crystallization. X-ray diffraction of protein crystals can reveal the atomic structure of the proteins.
PEG is used to fuse two different types of cells, most often B-cells and myelomas in order to create hybridomas.
4.Commercial uses
PEG is the basis of many skin creams (as cetomacrogol) and personal lubricants (frequently combined with glycerin).
PEG is used in a number of toothpastes as a dispersant. In this application, it binds water and helps keep xanthan gum uniformly distributed throughout the toothpaste.
